Towards the sky

I truly enjoy taking long walks. Especially when those walks take me along the river. I’m always inspired. There’s a few things going on in my life of late, and many times I find that I turn my face towards the sky, taking comfort in the beautiful endless blue and the warmth of the sun. On a recent walk, as I looked towards the sky again, the words “towards the sky” hit me, and a poem just started to flow. I immediately sat down on a bench and hammered it out. So, the following is what transpired from that moment. Enjoy!

Towards the Sky

One door closes
another opens
if only
you’d let yourself see.

Hanging on tight
to what you had
blind to all
that lays ahead.

So afraid
of all the change
to stumble and fall
to turn the page.

Take a breath
and give it one more try
it’s all right there
just take hold.

You are so strong
I am so proud
I have faith in you
even if you don’t.

You are not alone
I’m here for you
so take my hand
I’ll never let go.

Dreams are made
by what’s inside
so turn your face
towards the sky.

Close your eyes
and feel the sun
let it warm you
and fill you with hope.

One step at a time
you don’t have to run
just move ahead
and don’t give up.

You’ve got it now
I knew it was so
there’s that smile
I’ve been waiting for.

Determination
fills your soul
never look back
only forward.

No more doubt
no regrets
one door closes
and one opens wide
let yourself inside.

Apathy

OMG, I’ve crawled outta the woodwork and posted a blog!  Wowza!  Where have I been?  I’ve been asking myself that very question.  Where did the time go??  I swear I was only gonna take off a couple weeks, then BAM, months blew by.  Ugh.

Anyhoo, winter was actually pretty amazing, but I have to admit, I’m still glad it’s over.  Bring on summer!

My daughter’s curling season is over too, but she wowed us by winning three trophies this year!  Including club champions!  Dat’s my girl.  =D

So, in my home resides a veritable zoo – a bunny and two cats.  Okay, maybe to some that may not be a zoo, but my house is rather small, so it certainly feels like a zoo.  Phoenix, the newest addition, has a personality all her own.  She loves to eat — anything!  And I mean anything.  Recently, when I was washing the dishes, she plopped herself right next to me and meowed at me like she wanted something.  So, thinking it would be funny, I took a handful of bubbles and put it on her head.  It actually was rather funny to watch her contort to get them off, but what surprised me is that she ate the bubbles!  What??  Yah, I kid you not!  Now every time I do dishes, there she is, waiting for her serving of bubbles.  Yup, dat’s my kitty.

Now, getting to my writing project, I tilted to the darker side.  Wait…me, dallying on the dark side — big surprise.  LOL.  Enjoy!

Apathy

I am darkness
Flawed and tormented and dangerous.
I am bent
Perhaps even twisted
But not broken.
Bereft of love
My heart is black as night.
I struggle with a sliver of humanity.
It haunts me
And I despise it.

It flaunts itself
Sickly sweet kindness
Dripping with sarcasm.
Only fools believe in humanity.
Hidden behind scars and apathy
I have no use for it.
It has never served me well.

Hatred smoulders deep in my belly
Quelling all claims to humanity.
I prefer it that way.
My eyes, soulless
I am an empty vessel
Put on this earth for one purpose;
Destruction.
And if I die today
Hell awaits me
…and I welcome it.

Friendmas

The following is a revised version of a poem I wrote when I was about 17 years old.  I couldn’t find the original, but I remembered some of the lines and wanted to revive it.

I hope you enjoy!

Friendmas

Friendship at Christmas
Is the best gift of all
It doesn’t cost a penny
And has a size to fit all.

It’s easy to wrap
No paper, ribbons or bows
And easy to deliver
With cheer, and pink cheeks & nose.

It’s the gift that keeps on giving
And far better than something off a rack
Cuz every time you give it
You always get it back.

Friendship at Christmas
Fills your heart with good cheer
Has no expiry date or return policy
And grows stronger every year.

So share the best gift of the season
A true gift of the heart
And if it never crossed your mind to give
This is the perfect time to start.

Happy holidays to you and yours!

A lil Christmas ditty

Life of late has been crazy! Between work and getting ready for Xmas, my daughter’s curling and Xmas get togethers, writing took a bit of a back-burner. It just so happens that I had to write a silly poem about one of my bosses here at work for a get together. I figured, what the heck, I’ll post it.  😀

Wrote a lil ditty
And it goes like this
I’m feelin’ a lil shitty
Cuz I’m not into Xmas.

I was told I gotta write somethin’
About my boss, Louise
So it got me to thinkin’
They made this way too easy.

Suspicious of the sick
She won’t give me a hug
Tells me to “Stay away!  Ick!”
Cuz I’ve always gotta bug.

Sharp and witty
And a lil nasty too
She tells you like it is
No cryin’, boo-hoo.

But let’s face it, she’s great
I love her to pieces
I’ve said all I’m gonna say
Except of course, have a Merry Christmas!

She liked it! LOL. And she is awesome.

Wishing everyone a wonderful and safe holiday!

Autumn Flair

Look at me!! I’m blogging again. Happy happy days. Blog slacker, be gone!

Autumn is in the air. Well, technically, it still kinda feels like summer, but who’s complainin’!! Wowza! Yesterday, Winnipeg reached an all time high of 31C. Autumn is officially my 2nd favourite season. Oh yeah. =D

I’m happy to say that both my kids are well situated back in school. Is it wrong to be so happy?? =D

My daughter is loving high school, getting involved in everything she can. We spent last night at an hour long meeting for the high school curling team. She’s on the junior and ladies curling league, as well as the high school team. Can we say momma’s gonna have no life — hello chauffeur. Ahh, well, comes with the territory.

My son started the first of many courses he will be taking on his journey to becoming a paramedic. Momma’s so proud!! You go, Jay!

The other day, while enjoying this amazing weather, my daughter decided she wanted to join me on my daily run. I warned her that I will prolly slow her down (she’s a long distance runner on the high school cross-country team), but she was determined to run with me. It was a great run, keeping pace with her was a lil tough, but I did it. Was a personal best moment, if I do say so myself.

So, anyway, with the leaves changing colours and falling off the trees, I was definitely feeling some poetic energy. Which is good, cuz I’ve been poetically stunted this last little while. I hope you enjoy my lil word-soiree.

Autumn Flair

Red, orange, brown and yellow
Leaves brand the blue sky
Igniting the heavens
With vivid high definition colour.

The air, crisp and clean and cool
And smelling earthy
As the fallen leaves bow their heads
In preparation of a long winters sleep.

The sun smiles and bathes the earth
With beautiful tendrils of light
And a warmth that envelopes the soul
Propagating love.

A season of infinite change
Obvious to the eye and felt in the soul
As can only truly be done
With autumn flair.

For all my Canadian friends, have a wonderful Thanksgiving long weekend!

Fruition of victory

Crazy busy these days with too many projects on the fly.  End result – nothing gets done!  Ugh.

For this writing project, I gave myself a little challenge: the first words had to begin with the letter ‘F’, and each line had to have three words.  I think it turned out pretty good.

Focus on today
Forget the past
Fear no more
Fight your demons
Futility slips away.

Face life head-on
Factor in obstacles
Find strength within
Fulfill your destiny
Follow your dreams.

False prophets mislead
Fake friends discourage
Family is indifferent
Frightful reluctance arises
Faltering your steps.

Fashion deaf ears
Fixate eyes ahead
Fend for yourself
Forge boldly forward
Failure’s no option.

Final decision made
Fervour fills you
Fewer doubts prevail
Fiery passion drives
Finally, you’re there.

Footing deeply entrenched
Forward thinking blitz
Fabulous feeling inside
Forever, it’s yours
Fantastic is success.

Love

This week has been an interesting week – amazing weather, Game of Thrones finale, and we were adopted by a lil kitty – you know, important stuff.  =D

The weather this past weekend was phenomenal! I tossed aside all thoughts of work and enjoyed it completely. Went to the park on Saturday and tweeted all about it. What fun!

Game of Thrones finale this past Sunday was soooooo awesome! I love that show. How do they expect me to wait until spring 2012! Is this some kind of archaic torture! Ugh! ….well, at least I got the books, so there. =P

We were officially adopted by a lil kitty that wandered into our yard about a month ago. We kept telling it to ‘go home’, but apparently it was home. She is now my son’s kitty and he named her Phoenix. She is the most snugly cat I have ever met.

For my writing exercise, I did something a little different. I know I usually write dark fantasy genre stuff, but I felt light, so I wanted to share that. Enjoy!

Do you know love?
Has it found you?
Has it shaped you?
Has it made you more than you thought you could be?

Do you dream of love?
That goal that drives you,
That face that haunts you,
It’s yours already.

Do you see the love?
In the eyes of children,
In acts of kindness,
In friendship.

Do you hear the love?
In laughter,
In a whisper,
In your heart.

Can you feel the love?
It surrounds you,
It changes you,
It is you.

I believe true happiness begins within; then radiates outward. And, it’s contagious! ❤

Wonders never cease

Spring has sprung! The weather is beautiful. The sun is shining. All is right with the world. Now, if only I didn’t have to look at large mud piles in my yard and the lack of grass thereof. At least the mud is dry and no longer acts like a sucking tar pit. Good times ahead! Maybe I’ll regain those awesome muscles I developed in the fall — now that’s an incentive!

I keep trying to think of different ways to add some variety to my little writing exercises, and yes, I know, I’ve been sliding in the consistency of posting, but I have an excuse! Okay, I don’t…it’s just utter laziness. At least I’m honest with myself.

So anyway, I was watching a show on TV and it was about the many wonders of the world. Now, the seven wonders are really cool, but there are so many other wonders on this amazing planet too. So, I wrote this poem…or at least I think it’s a poem. =D

Wonders of the world
Beautiful and mysterious
Thought provoking…
Pyramids – final resting place of kings
Easter Island – faces of stone
Great Barrier Reeflife and beauty and colours abound
Great Wall of China – miles of defense
Stonehenge – incredible stone formations
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon – innovative irrigation
Ayers Rock – primeval blood-red rock
Grand Canyon – carved by water and time
Aurora Borealis – sky, alive with colour
Roman Colloseum – gladiator battles
Taj Mahal – inner peace
Chchen Itza – ancient steps to the stars
Our world has so many wonders to behold
This, but a snapshot of so much more
Awe-inspiring and mind-bending
Bewildering and breathtaking
Wonders of OUR world
How truly blessed we are.

These are but a handful of the amazing creations, both natural and man-made. What an amazing world we live in.

Shocked and Awed

Wonders of the World!  Shocked and Awed.
